How to re-activate WindowsXP automatic updates ?

On my WindowsXP System control register card for automatic update the whole card is grayed out and the wording " automatic Windows update service is not available".

Any suggestions on this ?

    if you mean, in start/control panel/performance/system/"automatic updates", try clicking the box at the top of the panel to enable automatic updates.

    Check "Administrative Tools" > Services   , Automatic Updates  shows  Status   Started  if not double click on it & set  Startup type to  "Automatic"    then click  "Apply"   , OK.
    Next right click on Auto...Updates   & select  "Start".
