IE not working

Hi Guys.

My IE on the laptop has just stopped working completely.  I think I may have had a virus, and have been trying to get rid.  Laptop now working fast, and I know I'm connected to the net (windows auto updates working) but when I open IE I get the 'page cannot be displayed' messgae.

I only run the windows firewall and it's 'allowed' on here.  I've tried uninstalling IE from the add/remove windows components section, then reinstalling it and it still wont do anything.

Any ideas where to start?

Cheers

    Right Click on Internet Explorer

    Choose Internet Properties

Hi, I've already done that (done it again to make double sure) and still no joy.

    Any other ideas?

The one thing I think it could be is a virus software I installed a year or so ago called F-Secure.  I tried to remove it with add/remove programs and it didn't do anything.  So I tried to get rid with regedit (having seen a post on here somewhere on how to completely get rid of something).  However, I notice it is still in 'all programs' from the start menu, and I can access certain parts of the program.  The reason I am mentioning it is that there may be a firewall included in this software?  If so, this could be preventing IE working?

Are there any other checks I could do?

I'm fairly good with XP and have done all the obvious things.  (haven't tried to ping a website, but I'm sure it will do it as I'm connected to my router (wireless) and I know that's fine as my desktop machine works fine)

    I'm stuck!!!

    Ok

Go to F-Secure site and download The Uninstallation Tool to remove it

    Then try internet explorer

    Hit me with result

I think you should Install firefox and try to open any website

    To identify the problem

Thanks, it's got rid of F-Secure, but unfortunately it doesn't seem that was the problem.

Still getting 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' :(

    This is driving me mad!

Could my ISP settings need checking?  Although I'm sure the laptop is connected to the ISP as Windows can update?
