index.dat

Is there any new fixes for xp to get rid of the cached index files? Or is one resigned to picking a pig ina poke from all the snake oil salesmen on the internet.TNX Jacpine

I tried the command prompt in safe mode after logging on as admin, the cmd window open but I was unable to enter any commands. When I exited back to safe mode my 4600 pc xp home froze up!! I was forced to shutdown manually [HORRORS]!!!   I than entered cmd in the run box it opened in cmdsys32. Iwas able to enter the del index.dat/s command it showed the index file in use unable to delete. However it did delet a couple of dat files. I was amazed to see {in Hijack] everything I thought I cleared out daily with the history and the cookies. I am learning more than I ever wanted to know about this infernal machine lol TNX JOHN

This file is within your account so you can either use someone elses account or create a new account then log out of yours then into thenew one then go into explorer and navigate to the offending file and delete it , when you return it will re appear as an empty file .

Or you can use a third party cleaning  program .
