Install your own operating system?

Hi.

Is it possible to install a different operating system, not using the Dell OS Recovery tool. I would like to install my own version(not Dell's), so I can start new.

My system is the Inspiron 6000D Notebook.

Thanks

Sure . . just use your disc instead of the Dell recovery program.  Although if you have a Dell installation disc, it is  full version of Windows . . If you use a disc other than an OEM version, you will have to use the COA that came with that disc.

This is a great guide for reinstalling on a Dell:  http://www.djdenham.com/Install%20Procedures.htm

    sportinggoodsmart,

It's not clear whether you understand that you can get an XP Reinstallation CD (which contains only a complete copy of Windows, no Dell add-ons) by simply contacting Dell and requesting it. See this. Unless you have a volume license for Windows this will save you the cost of purchasing a separate copy of XP.
