Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2

Does any have any experience with IE7 Beta 2? If so what are its advantages and disadvantages. Any problems with the download process or interactions with IE6. Any recommendations.

I installed it on my 2.26Mhz P4 with XP Pro and it works OK.  However, they have the options turned off in the Beta for forums such as this so you can't use the WYSIWYG editor.  All you have is the plaint text "ASCII" editor, like Firefox.   The last time I looked at the list of issues, there were a lot of functions still disabled in the beta versions.

Uninstalling is not a problem.  It sets up a restore point and if you want to go back to I.E6 (as I have done) all you have to do is uninstall the beta 7 in the add/remove software.

    That's nothing new.

I'm a bit of an odd one I guess. The main "new" feature in IE7 is the one thing that bothers me the most: tabs. I have two problems with tabs. For one, it's just so much quicker for me to use the application switch button on my MX1000 than to have to move the mouse to the top of the screen and click on another tab. My second issue is that clicking on a link that opens a new window still opens a completely new window - which defeats the purpose of the tabs in the first place (less clutter). To have to right click the link and then click "Open in New Tab" is again just way too much work.

Too buggy. There is a registry file that make IE 7 work with Dell's wysiwyg editor.

Then, My hotmail and msn mail would not download to my email programs. It was IE7 related(http authentication) and windows update had a patch.

But after restarting, even though my email worked, clcking on "my documents" more than once froze my explorer.

So, I gave up, used GoBack to restore to a time before I installed the buggy beta.

Some may have good luck with it, but not me.

I used it for a few hours. I liked the tabbed browsing. Then I discovered that clicking on links in Outlook Express would open My Documents instead of the intended URL. So using system restore I am easily back to IE 6.

That's odd. They must have fixed that one before I downloaded it. I haven't had any real problems yet (still using it).

Some don't have problems, because we all have different programs installed.

    Boppo,

What do you like better?  With IE 6, I can squeeze the top tool bars into two lines, including the Google tool bar, so the space is the same.  It seems that with IE7, I can't open every link, and it takes two actions, rather than one to go from page to page or open a link (using the cntrl function).

I'd be interested to hear what benefits you see.

    Regards,

    Jane
