IRQ manipulation issues...Please Help
Hello,
I am sick of my internet connections (AOL, Yahoo, Google) freezing up! So, I took a good look at my system an noticed that I have a Resource Conflict (IRQ conflict) which I suspect is largely responsible for my troubles? There are 3 devices/drivers/controllers using the same IRQ 16:
My modem (a plug-in BocaModem V.92 56K) on Com Port 3
An Intel (R) Extreme Graphics Controller
An Intel (r) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2
I recall being told a while back that this is like 3 people all trying to stand in exactly the same place at the same time! If so, this conflict must be the culprit? So, I tried to go into the system and fix it by assigning a new IRQ (there are many unused ones available, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10 and more) to my modem.
I got almost all the way in "Device Manager's" "Resources" but got hit a brick wall with the message, "Must have Write Privileges in Registry to Modify Device Settings". So I read some more and found out about running "Regedit.exe" and did so. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to edit in my authorization to have Write Privileges?? Can anyone offer some HELP PLEASE?
I have a Dell Dimension 2350 Pentium 4 at 1.7 GHZ
768 MB RAM
80 HD, Almost Empty
Windows XP Home
it is stand-alone single-use personal pc with a dial connection
Thanks VERY much in advance,
Ken
