Link connection PROBLEMS

With my Dell dimension 2400 while using IE I am having problems connecting to links within a web site, sometimes.  For example, today while shopping for tickets for a Broadway play I wanted to view the theatre seating arrangement.  Clicking on that link gave me a "plunk" sound, a small 1" x 1"  box with a red X over a web-looking page w/ yellow box within, etc..  The web page that popped up was addressed http://www.buy.com/ and an otherwise blank page.  Further while seeking on-line chat help from Dell Support, when clicking on the "submit" button I got the same thing initially and then a page titled "Blank Page - Eastern Oregon Net" (my ISP) and a web address "about:blank".   This situation has been going on for only about the past week.  I haven't a clue what to do to remedy this situation.  Help!  For what it is worth I use Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security w/ regular updates, Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-aware ckecks.

It sounds like you have a pop up blocker at work.

Dudley Young - Thanks for your reply.  I experimented w/ turning OFF the pop-up blocker and got exactly the same results!

You might want to run some spyware & malware scans; probably run them in safe mode too...  Has your homepage changed without your permission ?  If so, just wondering if you have a variant of the CWS Shredder malware crud. If so, that one is a real bug-a-boo to completely eradicate because it replicates itself.

If your homepage is fine, then you probably don't have this malware...... watch for more help here from others. I'm not the best troubleshooter ...:smileywink:

tommyo1954 - thanks for the info.  It did not do any good to delete temp files and cookies; may need to explore www.supportmicrosoft.com further.  Re the CWS Shredder malware: got any ideas on how to check for and eliminate it?
