Boot to Safe Mode. If Administrator is shown on the Welcome screen log into that account (the password is null--blank--by default) then go to Start|Control Panel|User Accounts and change the password on your named administrator account to something new. If Administrator is not shown on the Welcome screen press Ctrl-Alt-Delete twice and on the sign in screen enter Administrator as the user name and leave the password blank. That should allow you to log on.

This is helpfull indeed if you lose your password but how secure is your computer if someone else is able to do this to your computer without your permission?

It's a shame that the computer passwords can be cracked. I like the idea of a bios password, as long as it cannot be cleared. But the problem with that idea, if the legit user forgets the password, he/she will have a expensive doorstop.

I don't take my laptop out, but I'd like to fix it so if it was stolen, it would be useless.
