Lost Sound
Somehow I lost sound - deleting either the driver or device for the multimedia audio controller.
Dell Dimension 8300
Sound Blaster Audigy2
XP Home
Whenever I reboot I get the 'New Hardward Found' wizzard.
When checking the device manager I see that a Multimedia Audio Controller has no driver installed
and that a PCI Input Device also has no driver installed.
I have tried having the new hardware wizzard re-install the drivers by putting the Dell Resource CD in and letting it search there,
I've also put in my in my Sound Blaster Audigy2 CD and had it search there but it doesn't seem to find the right drivers.
When I try to manually install Audigy2 drivers from the CD the system gets a machine check (BSOD) at the end of the installation
(when updating Windows Drivers)
When I try downloading the Audigy drivers from the Dell site I get a message that no Audigy2 card was detected.
I've done a system restore to a point when the sound was still working - ho help.
I've checked my DirectX installation but it seems to be installed correctly.
Is this indicitative of a burned out sound card?
Thanks much for any advice
