I have a Inspiron 1720 and when trying to run a DVD via MDE the player seems to access the disk but never actually plays the dvd. All controls work I tried get to the disc menu and you get a black screen and nothing else. You can access the music, photos etc no problem. If you fully boot up windows vista and then run MD it runs the dvd fine loads up straight away when you click on movies. Any ideas? Recently downloaded new version but it made no difference was the same before and after the install. Would be grateful for any advice.

 

Just to add I've played 10 dvd's of varied genre and they all work when played in MD in vista, when in MDE mode it played 4 no problems 5 it wouldn't do anything (it said it was playing but no pictures) and one it would start to play for a couple of secs then nothing, if I kept trying the restart option for the disk it did eventually start. Could it be the DVD-RW player? (pioneer DVD+- rw DR-K17Y)
