when i play a cd, i get no media information. i look under library and playing now, and all i can get is unknown artist and unknown song. mp 10 should recognize this automatically right? when i click on the find album info in playing now the metaservices window comes up with the right info, i click finish and the screen returns to playing now screen with the unknown still there with no changes.
It works fine for me. If I'm connected to the internet, and insert a "store bought" CD (meaning it wasn't burned on a personal CD burner) it will come up with the info in a minute or less.
Go to: tools--options--privacy. Make sure the 2nd box is checked. OK.
Make sure your firewall is allowing WMP to access the internet to get album info.
Thanks for the reply. I use MusicmatchJukebox to rip the cd because it gives me artist name and song title immediately; then move it to mp10. musicmatch should not work for media info if the firewall setting need adjustment. there must be something else in mp10m that i am not doing?
I don't know. It depends what firewall you're using. If you are using the Windows firewall, there shouldn't be a problem. But others, you have to allow certain applications from accessing the net. It usually prompts you.
CPOPP. I'm having the same problem as you and I don't understand it other than, perhaps, a conflict with the Musicmatch jukebox thing that came preinstalled on the computer. Here's my scenario:
I just got a new Dell 6000 laptop a couple weeks ago. When I first clicked on the WMP icon, it had to install, fine. Well, the musicmatch icon automatically comes up when you insert a disc. I set up and then changed the preferences for it NOT to run by default. Well, whenever I play any CD in my drive [older, newer, all purchased, as well as several I purchased and burned from Napster on my desktop), I get "unknown artist" and no track titles. I click the icon to "find album info" and it finds it fine on the windows media player server. I click the "finished" button to download it to the computer and then it goes back to my "now playing" window with still "unknown album." I can't update it from the playlist either. I'm running WMP10 version 10.00.00.3646. Do I need to remove WMP and just reinstall it again from scratch? I have all the boxes checked appropriately under the Private tab for "display media information from the internet" and "update music files by downloading information from the internet" and have searched this out on both Dell, windows, and a variety of other tech forums. This feature works fine on my old laptop and desktop, just not the new machine.
Please someone help. I feel like I've tried everything short of deleting both musicmatch and media player and then just redownloading and installing WMP10. It can't be a firewall problem as I can do everything else on the web fine and WMP has full access in mcafee.
Thanks...
Brad

I was able to get WMP10 working again by the following:
1. Unistalled both Musicmatch related programs from the Control Panel's add/remove list (I didn't want them anyway, but they came "preinstalled"...just like AOL, which I also don't use
2. WMP10 still didn't work properly after #1, so I downloaded WMP10 again from Microsoft and reinstalled it over the top of the currently installed version (I could not find an "add/remove" option for WMP10).
3. It then worked FINE. My only problem now is that when I insert a CD and the "What would you like windows to do?" popup appears, it still includes "Play with Musicmatch Jukebox" as one of the options (text is there, but icon next to it isn't). I've tried tweaking it with the TweakUI application and through the drive properties window, but I can only add a new entry. I can't remove one. There is probably something in the registry I need to clean up that was left behind by MM.
I thought that I might have had a problem with Napster (so I went ahead and uninstalled it). Then, like you, I re-installed WMP10. It has worked fine since then! Perhaps try as a first step to just reinstal MP 10.

Hope this helps.
