Microsoft money backup

Hello, I did a clean install and before I did it I did a backup in Microsoft money, and now I want to restore the backup but it is saying that it could not backup because the file may be corrupt or not a money backup file. It has to be a backup file considering I was in money and when I shut the program down it asked if I wanted to backup and I did.

Went to microsofts site and read some on this and I am thinking that maybe the version on the system now was not the same version it was, meaning I had updated it and it wont go back because of that.

How would I find out what version that I had before, I know that its still money 2001.

Help..

Is the version you're running now newer?  Generally software packages are designed to be backward compatable but not forward compatable.

Right click on money icon and check properties or go to add and remove programs you should be able to see what version you have..Sput is on the right track ...Money can be put into a newer program, but once it is put into the newer program it can not be run by the older one...It converts the file on the back up to to a new file ext...The only way is to get the newer version that it was changed to to run it.. If you have a new version install that ..The other reason would be if you have a bad floppy..

My mind works like lightning one Brilliant flash and its gone!!!

No, I would say that the version is probably older. obviously this is the software that was installed when I bought my dell 4100 in 2001. So I would have probably done updates over that time. How would I find out that type of stuff?

    Thanks,

I wish I could tell you more..Also like I said I have had bad floppys cause the same problem.. The first link tells what I have said the second is another possibilty...

Bill, so you're running MS Money 2001 or 2000? I can poke around but want to make sure I not poking around for the wrong update info to begin with.

Also is your version of Money part of Microsoft Works Suite or is it a seperate piece of software? And if it's a part of Microsoft Works Suite, what version, please?

In the meantime I found this excert in an article regarding both versions, NOTE the instructions for using MS Money itself to dowload a security update.

    Online Updates

The patch will be automatically downloaded to Money 2000 and 2001 users who update the program via the Update Internet Information feature in the Tools menu. If you want to activate that feature, you can either do so via Tools, Options, or perform a one-time update using the Tools, Update menu command.

    Hello:

I go into money and go to tools go down to Upgrade money, then it comes back with the following message:

thank you for your interest in upgrading Money2001 standard to Money 2001 deluxe. Microsoft Money 2002 will be available soon, so we've discontinued this upgrad service. Please check back later this month for more information on upgrading to Money 2002 Deluxe.

That is the message when I hit upgrade money.. in tools.

    Any more help? Please...
