Missing attachments from one sender

Whenever a US supplier sends me an email with an attachment the attachment is deleted.  There is no message to say its been deleted.  I do not have the problem with anyone else and nor does he and he can send attachments to my colleague.  Its not removed by the server as I can download it by webmail.  I use Outlook and McAfee  Any ideas?

Check your settings in McAfee.  I can almost bet that's the problem.  McAfee has been known to filter senders to junk email (even if they are on your trusted list) and delete attachments.  Since I don't use McAfee (maybe someone else who does use it will jump in) I can't give you detailed instructions.  Since you can get the attachment via webmail but not through Outlook, I'm pretty sure that's what is causing the dilemma.

Personal advice (take it or leave it):  when your subscription to McAfee runs out, delete it and go with one of the free ones like AVG, Avast! or AntiVir.  Much easier on your system and much less intrusive on your other applications (like this).

Here's a list of Blocked Attachments that are set in Outlook.  If the file type being sent is on this list, that might be the reason that Outlook is blocking it.

Perplexing, though, that a file is blocked through Outlook (traditionally set to be scanned by your AV), but not through webmail (which is usually not set to be scanned automatically by your AV as your mail client).

What file type won't come through in Outlook?

I don't think it's McAfee. Reason: McAfee should be scanning the attachments even if downloaded from webmail.

This is risky but you could right-click the M in the system tray by the clock and select VirusScan>Options. You could uncheck the "Scan email attachments" options and have the same vendor send you a file. My bet is you still won't get it. Any infected attachments won't be detected if this VirusScan box is unchecked so do this entirely at your own risk!

Also, right-click the M and select VirusScan>Manage Quarantined files. I'm guessing they won't be there, which is where McAfee puts suspect files and attachments.

I think you need to look at your Outlook settings. I don't use Outlook so somebody else is going to have to help you there.

Thanks for the recent responses.  All file types are blocked from this one sender.  I've searched Outlook and McAfee and cannot see why this one sender should have his attachments blocked.
I assume its his email address which is being filtered in some way.

Have your IT people check your account. They may have some filter setting on the server for your account that blocks this sender.
