msie

Could you tell me how to reinstall msie 6 - win xp. I got an error message that msie has encountered a problem and must close. It occured at only one website and I was advised to reinstall msie by someone who had a similiar problem.
Thank you

Before resorting to the complicated process of reinstalling this, why not give us a chance to determine what is causing the error.  When you get the message that Internet Explorer must close, click on the link to show the details of the error report.  Write down the AppName and ModName inolved in the error and report that information in a reply to this message.

    Steve,

Sorry to mislead you. That message occured while I was at my daughter's pc  which is not well maintained. They won't allow me to help running a/v, spyware programs etc + they are administrators. If you have adult chidren you'll understand. My machine runs well.

Therefore, the question was one that would increase my pc knowledge.

If you would like to explain or direct me to the reinstallation of msie it would be appreciated. All goes in my folder, " pc info" for reference.

When I have a specific error message I certainly will post it in detail here-thank you.

If it's only one site I would question the site not the browser. If you want to post it I'd be interested...

If the version of XP is SP2 I would first attempt just re-registering the dlls by running this command:

    iexplore /rereg

The version is win xp sp 1-Mine is sp2-I don't know why they won't upgrade as I have offered them my disk.

My real question has been answered re: reinstallation of msie and I'm glad I don't have to.

I appreciate the concept of re-registering the dills but for a non techy it looks ominous. I wish I grew up with these machines but I'm 65 and just got one not long ago;trying to learn step by step.

Thanx to all for the help and I'll be back for something more simple.

Yiou were right about the complexity if reinstalling it. I thank you for the references but I'm not techy enough to perform the operation.

If *you* do have problems with your IE don't be afraid of the command I mentioned. To run it, go to Start, then Run and enter:

iexplore /rereg (note the space and make sure all IE windows are closed); hit Enter key. That's it.

As for the kids, let them come to you. Oh, I forgot, they're administrators.

The kids are on their own BUT I've made note of your command for future reference; sure beats reinstalling -thank you.
