Pentium to AMD system Help
Hi all. I am in the process of starting to convert my system from a pentium 4 system to a AMD 64 dual-core, FX processor. The hardware conversion is no problem, but have some questions about the software side of the upgrade. Concerning my current file structure; will I need to reinstall Windows? Will I need to use the XP Pro 64 version for this processor? And, will I be able to use my current configurations when it comes to my hardrives(slave). Also, if anyone can direct me to a good site as far as the step by step procedure for the software install sequence (ie; I believe I remember installing the bios before the operating system, right?) It's been a while since I put together my current pentium system, and I have forgotten a few of the steps. Is it possible to just install the new AMD chip/mobo/video card and keep everything 'current' on my main drive? I thank everyone for talking the time to read/respond to my inquiries.

That is an afirmative on the fresh install. You are talking about Windows XP64, correct? Also, what are the main folders that are associated with the operating system that will need to be backed up? Sounds like other than the normal inconvienence of a fresh install, there is not that much change? Thank you.DC
