I'm running a Dell 8200, with XP Home. My problem is that I can not adjust my power options for shut down either in "Display", or in "Power Options". I want to shut down my monitor, and ,my hard drive, without logging off each time. In the screensaver dialog box, at the bottom is a "Power" button. The options are not highlighted for me to make my choices. Options meaning (shut down monitor in 45 minutes, shut down hard drive in 1 hour, etc.) I have no power scheme, and can not create a new one to save.Is there anything I can do to bring it back as it was before?
Thanks for the post on my problem, but I must admit I'm not a computer geek, so to say!
You have lost me here with your instructions, mainly cause my limited knowledge on computers. This problem has been with me for a couple of years now. I had the PC in the shop and it came back worse it seemed. I have downloaded some updated software from my employment, such as Office Packs with Excel, Word, about 5 programs in all. It has changed my operating system so I can't reload my Original Windows Program disc that came with my Dell. If I go into system restore, it will not allow me to go back to that time, only about 3 months.Your idea of enabling power management in the BIOS and then disabling it in control panel/power options sounds great, but I do not know how! This is now my next problem! Can anyone help, please!?

When did this start? Could try a system restore.
You could try enabling power management in the BIOS and then disabling
it in control panel/power options.
