Power Settings -- System will not Sleep or Hibernate

In the past week my system has stopped going to 'Sleep' and then into "Hibernation".  I have checked the power settings and have tried different options.  I can manually force these options, but need a correction.  Have run full Spyware, Adware and Virus checks, with nothing showing up.

Is this a desktop or laptop? The consensus is that these features do not work correctly on a desk top.

This is Laptop Inspion 6000.  I've never had any issues with the power settings until now.

No new software has been installed for over 2 months.  Only regular Virus updates.  As far as I know, there are no other system issues.

I have a I6000D also and had iffy problems with sleep and hibernation. I since installed vista with all the programs and stuff I had on vista and all works well with sleep/hibernation.
