Hi, My D4100 is frozen just after PowerON. The HDD(Western Digital)gets going(few seconds),but before the system splash screen arrives, it goes Beep-Beep-Beep...Beep-Beep,then it freezes! Could this be a BIOS issue? I've reinstalled W-ME(dirty,worked for my Inspiron).Recently, I un/reinstalled,Nero, Nvidia(display adapter/drivers) & countless other items/ attempts with W-ME. The only way I've been able to get to Desktop, is by pecking at many keys including C-A-D,plus hit the restart ,while the WD-HDD is still trying to bootup. It's getting more lengthy to get started each time. If, I restart soon after the Desktop arrives,it works! But,waiting an hour or more, and forget it! It's back to the keyboard dance! I've run the WD HDD diagnostics. While reinstalling W-ME(first got blue screens; While Initializing Device VSData95..), it fixed some Hdd sectors. This HDD has a habit(since new) of acting asleep, then returning to life with cursor movement. Anyway, could this problem still be W-ME? Or, is it possibly the WD-HDD is at fault? Yep,I'm looking at a Clean Install or HDD replacement,or both. But,maybe not! Any suggestions would be welcome! Just, tell me what's the name of that startup tune,Beep-BeepBeep..Beep-Beep!?It must be an oldie. Thanks.
Thanks, & yes the Beep Codes are 1-2...2, then it freezes on Post-Test.(DMA initialization failure-advanced troubleshooting xps series) From that code,I reset the Memory Modules. That did not fix it. Are you aware of other possibilities? Thanks Again.
I suggest you run the Dell diagnostics for your 4100. The files can be downloaded from your support home page. Follow the instructions to prepare a set of floppies, 4 I think. Then boot from the first diag floppy and follow the instructions.
