Problem with the missing LPT port
Does anybody has an idea how to get the HW key (for LPT1) working in the USB port. I have an adapter to make USB port available for Printing (USB - Parallel)
The software does not recognize the HW key attached into that adapter cable.
Operating system is XP Professional and the HW key is an old key for Solidworks

Hi,Not certain, but I think this could be a parallel port DONGLE.These are used for some very expensive software to prevent pirating.I can't see that one of these could possibly work with any USB to Parallel adapter.I think the only solution would be to install a PCI card with a parallel port or combination PCI card with multiple functions.If I'm not right in this then I'd also ask what is a HW keyCeri- I already connected the adapter into the USB port and the HW key into the Adapters 25pin LPT connector, but it doesn't work. I assume the software searches the HW key from the HW-coded LPT-port and can't find it because the USB enabled printing doesn't show up like LPT-port.

The HASP (Hardware Against Software Piracy) also known as DONGLE may have to be updated to HASP4 to work. Newer HASP4 is only available in USB. Extra charge to get Parallel Port HASP these days. You're right Osprey, good as gone.

Do you have haspinfo.exe file? If not, download it from here:

This will let you know what level your parallel port HASP is.
Little tricky to do this, but here's how to create the port.
In this procedure, use the Create Local Port. recommend you use LPT2 as the port name. Helps if you have a plug and play printer to attach to the Parallel Port adapter plugged into the HASP.After creating port, Add Printer (Generic Text for example) and designate it as being attached to LPT2.
If you have a parallel port printer, that's fine. It can help test communication with the port you created. If not, don't worry about it.

Whoa. Almost forgot. Read key only in these procedures. Don't try to change the HW key's code.
