I am trying to uninstall a program (Philips Device Manager for an MP3 player). I have had nothing but trouble trying to get this player to be recognized by my computer for song transfers. Another owner of the same player told me that he had to delete the Windows Media Player that installed from the CD that came with the player, and install another copy from Microsoft's website. (Windows Media Player 10).
When I tried to install the WMP 10 program, it would not finish the install. I went to try and uninstall the WMP 9 player that is on my computer through the Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs ... and WMP is not located there. I then went to C: ... Program Files ... etc ... and tried to delete the program that way (even though I know that is not the correct way to do it) ... and it will not delete the program. It says that it is "Cannot delete Windows Media Player: it is being used by another program"
I figured that it was maybe being used by the Philips Device Manager ... and that I would uninstall that program, and then reinstall it again. I went to Control Panel .. etc ... and it will not let me uninstall it. It starts to uninstall .. then I get a message that says: "Setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
All I want to do is be able to use this MP3 player as it was intended to be used ... and not just a $200.00 radio.
P.S. I even had to install a USB 2.0 card .. and have that taken care of, as it was needed for the player to connect properly to my computer.
Getting help from Philips is of no help ... their tech's seem as if it is a problem to help anyone.
Have you got this resolved yet? I have bought a Philips MP3 for my daughter and cannot get the WMP to detect the portable device. Plus, I cannot uninstall my current WMP. I need to download the current version from Microsoft. Philips has been very helpful to me. This one CSR has spent almost all morning either helping me or researching the problem. Dell wanted to charge me for the software question to be answered. I told him that it wasn't my problem; it was Dell's (Microsoft's) problem and we shouldn't be charged for the resolution. Of course, I didn't get anywhere....We bought our daughter a Samsung MP3 first (that's what she wanted); returned it for the same brand but more space; ended up sending it off to Samsung. They put a chip in it; got it back; and WMP still wouldn't recognize it!!! So, we went with the Philips brand. She loves everything about it, but like you said...it is an expensive radio!!!!!
Again, my main reason for writing was to see if you got your problem resolved and what it took. Plus, to do some venting, but to let you know you aren't alone.
