As a general rule of thumb, when I install/reinstall Windows (from 95 through XP) I start by using the debug script (got it off the Dell site when I bought my first XPS P200s) then progressing from there through fdisk and formatting. I now own a new Inspiron
without a floppy drive. My question is this, numerous posts on this subject say to just run the reinstall disk.
Will that give me a truly "clean reinstall"?.
I love my Inspiron but I am finding a plethora of craptastic software on my machine that is wreaking havoc with my day to day business.
You asked, " Will that give me a truly "clean reinstall?"
Yes, it will. The debug was overkill in your past uses unless you suspected serious problems with the hard disk you were going to install Windows onto.
This sounds like a wonderful project for a rainy, Friday afternoon. I got into the habit of using debug a number of years ago after I ran into some serious problems with a HDD that came with a barebones machine. The company went out of business just days after I received my "new" kit. :smileysad: It is nice to know I will only have to use it as a last resort.
