Reinstall

I'd like to reinstall my system and wipe the HD as I might have a virus.

When I try to reinstall, I'm asked where to do this.
What do I delete? Where do I tell the software to reinstall?

Thanks

You're going to have to provide your system and OS information.

Presumably since you posted this on the XP forum you do have XP. If so, boot from your XP CD and just follow the instructions to format and install.

Since you will lose all data and programs you should back up anything important to another drive or partition.

I would like to restore to as shipped. However, my programs will not run or open nor can I open my computer, sometimes I can get control panel after waiting 4 ever but last few days that won't open. I really need to get these problems fixed. How can I restore or fix anything if nothing will open and allow me in, I have tried thru administrator, safe mode, both users and nothing. I can get to the screen where you can boot in various ways but then nothing. Any ideas??  I am getting to that point of just throwing the laptop off the cliff :smileysad: And I am new to this forum so not sure on posting where, I just need help. If someone could tell me how to get my computer info. so it will be seen for someone to be able to help that would be great.

         Osprey4,

Thank you for the advice, I went to Denny's link, so far I have not found the answer I am searching for. I will continue to look when I have a little more time.

My main concern is When I reinstall and make the laptop in as shipped to me condition, If there are any problems or viruses Will they stay there? I can't run my virus or antispyware scans or even just defrag. Because nothing will open. If I just put the CD in and reinstall as it overwrites will it get rid of the problems?

CPU usage is still at 100%, it almost seems like things are running 2x's, but there is nothing running from what is showing on laptop only that I am online. I am still searching for answers before I do anything to the laptop. I want to make sure that I do everything I can correctly.

                                                                                                           Thank you,

                                                                                                                   Ali

ali5 - if your PC has the Dell PC Restore feature, try this link, which is mentioned in the beginning of the link posted earlier by Denny.

    greyMack,

I did the dell restore feature, so far all is well. I have not completed checking on everything (I have very little time so I think I am about done checking everything. My CPU usage is very low now. Laptop running better, still seems a bit slow compared to when we first received it. Not sure if there is anything I can do about that yet, still searching for possibilities.
                                                                                                                   Thank you,
