Hello everyone! few questions right quick..

 

We have a computer with a virus, HP did not honor their side of things by making me a correct copy XP, they gave me everything to install but the opening exe file.  Now, I noticed that its a 2002 media center edition with service pack two on it.

 

Ok, I dont know exactly what happened but its been bitten by a malicious virus, so I was going to re-install windows but as I said no exe file on the cd's they gave me, which I am sure they did this on purpose.  Anywho, I once did this, I have Ubuntu on my computer, but I used Ubuntu to clean out the HD, and or strip it, then unplugged everything, it worked, I then re-inserted my copy of windows xo and it worked, I totally reloaded windows and drivers.  However that was on a Dell machine, dont know if that matters..does it?

 

After a time I went ahead and re-loaded Ubuntu back on that particular machine. 

 

My question.  I am considering seriously to use ubuntu on the HP Pavillion computer, ( with virus ) then stop it after the HD is srtipped.  Then put my copy of windows on that machine, that copy would be windows pro 2002, not  much behind what HP had on it wich is media center 2002, we bought this last year, so I am surprised the copy is so old.

 

If I do this..will the drivers load? from my copy? I then can update it with service pack 2 if necessary, not sure about service pack 3 for windows as I read on line.

 

I figured once I stripped it, it all shoudl be a go, then no virus and pc up and running once again, I cant see why this would not work, its just hp logos on everything, what do you all recommend? as today I can do this, tomorrow and after the time will be out.
