Restoring backup info from disk to computer

I have a disk I burned with backup info, including my OE files, before I reformatted.  Now, I cannot transfer the data back to my computer files.  Can any of you help me with that?

    Have you tried the Files And Settings Transfer (FAST) Wizard?

    Did you verify the backup was good?

    I didn't test the disks after the burns.  I was stupid enough to believe the program when it verified that the data was there and the burn was successful.  Again, a hard lesson. 
     
    I was online last night looking a data retrieval programs and found some that were under $100, but how does one decide which one will fit one's needs?  This part of the computer world is a foreign one to me.
