Scna disc

I have Dimension 2350 with Windows XP.  I recenlty installed MS Office Profess. ed. 2003 for a college course that I am taking and need this program.  About two/three days ago the computer started acting weird.

I scan for viruses w/Norton. (yes its updated) and HouseCalls free online service.
I also check for spyware using Ad-aware and spybot.  All services find nothing wrong.

I can not locate Scan Disc in my start menu under accessories/system tools.

Can anyone recommend anything that I can do to check the overall system and make sure that everything is running ok?   My gut instinct is telling me that there is something wrong, ie, virus, etc but I just can't figure it out and it's driving me crazy!!!:smileymad:

Any help is appreciated!

    trot,

There no scandisk in XP. Instead it uses chkdsk. To run chkdsk in a mode comparable to a thorough scandisk (check the disk and fix errors) on way is to go to Start|Run, enter chkdsk /f and click OK. You will be told that the check cannot be run but will be run the next time Windows starts. OK that, then reboot. (Note that in the command there is a space before the /f.)
