Screen blackout on startup

Hey, I have an inspiron e1505 with XP Pro. When I log in, my desktop background will show up, then the screen will go to black, and then it will all show up again, this time with the taskbar, and complete the login. Right now this lasts about a second or two. This does not seem very smooth so I am wondering if there is anyway I can fix this? My main concern is that as I add programs and the startup takes longer, then this blackout period may last longer.

It's not unusual for the screen to go blank during boot up. The time that the screen stays blank various from computer to computer. In fact, it may vary on the same computer. I'm not sure why this happens, but I won't worry about it. If it starts to take minutes for the desktop with icons to appear, then you might want to call Dell's tech support. Of course, tech support at Dell is somewhat of a joke.
