When I right-click My Computer, then click; properties- performance - advanced, and then set (check), "Show window contents while dragging, windows only saves that setting for the current session. Once the computer is shut down and or restarted, the option is set back to being unchecked and window contents are no longer displayed when dragging. I have tried to save this change now at least 15 times and the change will not be saved on next startup. And yes, I did click apply and then ok after making the change.
Anyone ever experienced this before and if so, what is causing this and how can it be corrected, please? Thanks in advance for any suggestions on this very annoying problem.
There are two settings for "Show windows contents while dragging" , don't know which has priority. ?
So also try right click on blank Desktop select Properties , Appearance tab , Effects & also set "Show window contents while dragging" there.
I did it there too. When you check one place it makes the change at the other. I also set it to "adjust for best appearance" then restarted. Then all the check marks, including "show window contents while dragging are checked but the function is not there, window contents are not showing when you drag the window - just a frame where the window should be. It's a nightmare!
Gary, thanks. Just look at that and that is the way it is. I guess I will have to send this computer back, it's only one week old and this is the way it came out of the box and no one so far has a fix. It's something I have never seen before on any computer - and I have seen/worked-on, lots of them.
Denny, no I have not, but it looks good enough to me to give it a go. I will try this later tonight when I get off work and get back to you on this message with how it went. Thanks for the response...
Denny, there are two sets of instructions. Should I use the long one from Dell or this one:
I just noticed that one of the instructions in Archfiend's list was to copy a file whose extension is .sy_. That is a compressed form of the file, which has to be expanded, not simply copied. So to get Win32K.sys into your c:windows\system32 folder from the \I386 folder on the CD, you should insert the XP disk, close the autorun window if it comes up, then go to start, run, type
My I386 folder has WIN32K.SY_ on it, so the "expand" command should be used. Notice, though, that the instructions I linked to have you copy WIN32K.SY_ to the system32 folder and then expand it later in the procedure.

Now I am really confused. First in the one message I received there were two complete sets of instructions. One was from someone from Dell where I copy the win32k.sys file from the XP disk to my system 32 folder and start up in the safe mode to expand it.
The other set of instructions just has me do an expand from the xp disk to my system32 folder.
Which one is the correct way to go - or does it matter.
For the record - it looks like I have a win32K.sys file in both my C:/1386 folder as well as my system32 folder - if that means anything.
Please someone just tell me the instructions I need to follow, please.
