So far... No Problems

With all the negativity surrounding the Vista upgrade, I thought I would chime in with my 2 cents... I installed my upgrade as an upgrade, which took about 5 hours from beginning to end...Everything seemed to work on the new system, I could access network resources on my local network, but I was unable to connect to the Internet.

After fighting with it on and off for two days, I completely removed the Windows Firewall, and installed PCTools Firewall Plus... Problem solved.

I connected my Dell 3100cn Network printer and it works flawlessly, all my old software/games work and were detected by Vista...

The system seems to be running smoothly and the speed seems about the same as before the upgrade, even with the Aero interface.

BTW, my system is an Inspiron 1501 (AMD Sempron 3500+ [1.8 gHz], 1gig RAM, 80gig HD)

Great to know that, it seems you took care of your computer when you had XP, that's why you didn't get problems, many people install a lot of sotware that may become the system slow...

I've also been running Vista without any serious issues for the past month.  Unlike you, I used my upgrade media to perform a clean install (since I just got the computer in February, and hardly had anything on it).  I get the odd bugs from time to time, but overall I've been amazed at how well it's working (knock on wood) so soon after release.

I have Vista and the only issues I had was with McAfee after I got rid of it and disabled the anti phishing filter in IE7 it runs perfectly.

My only issue is that my machine locks up when trying to Shut down or Restart Vista. I'm not a neophyte in Tech as I'ved worked for 10 years troubleshooting PC issues and I haven't figured it out which driver/hardware is causing it yet.

I setup XP as a Dual Boot and XP runs like melted butter on teflon.

    Hi Phingu,

Same here! Went the upgrade route. The upgrade took about 1 1/2 hours. Everything went perfect, even got a compatible version of Roxio installed during the upgrade to replace the XP version. Man! Your upgrade to a long time, are you referring to the total time it to you to get updates, install drivers and your application set up you security? Well, anyways Vista is running smoothly for you and that's good to hear. Good luck with your Vista experience!
