Sound Change for Internet Explorer and E-mail

Recently, I installed SP2 on my Dell Dimension 8250 XP.  Several problems occured which Dell fixed.  But one that is unresolved is:

A different sound occurs now when opening Internet Explorer or IncrediMail (E-mail).  I checked Sounds under Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control Panel but cannot find that sound or a function associated with either IE or E-mail.  How do I change the sound?

If you mean a sound when you open a program, have you tried the 'open program' item in Sounds under Windows?

If that is not it, by checking the sounds made by each item (click the test button, the horizontal black triangle to play the sound) against the sound you now hear will identify the setting you need to change.

'Open Window' has 'No Sound' listed.  Actually it comes up just after the Window opens.  It sounds like a Water Drop and only occurs just after opening either Internet Explorer (sometimes twice) or IncrediMail (does it once) - doesn't seem to do that on any other window opening.  If I give a sound to 'Open Window', that sound will occur upon opening with the Waterdrop sound following.  I did check all the sound tests trying to find it, but that sound wasn't there.  I don't remember it prior to installing SP2.

    Kl2u,

Is it perhaps the "Start Navigation" sound, listed under "Windows Explorer" in the Sounds tab?

    kl2u,

I don't remember which one, but there's some weather forecast related add-in for IE that does that.

    Jim,

No, it is louder and longer, like a big water drop.  None of the sounds listed or actions selected with sounds seems to be it.

Is it the sound of the popup blocker in IE that came with SP2? See if Tools,  popup blocker, popup blocker settings, clear box 'play a sound when popup is blocked' stops the sound (renable it you want, of course).

I turned off the Pop-up Blocker sound, and it still happened.  I noticed too that it did that sound after the computer was tunred on and the Desktop icons were completed setting up.

It's clearly not one of the obvious ones. As I suggested in earlier post the best way to trace its origin is to go through the sounds items one by one regardless of whether the description seems likely, test each to hear the sound it makes, then if you find one that makes the sound that you are wondering about, turn it off or change the sound for it, see if it's that setting.

I have gone thru all the sounds tests and the function s with sounds and that sound is not there.  I guess that I can live with it - it's more curiousity that it suddenly occurred than anything else.  Thank you.

Now I see that everytime I open another link in Internet Explorer, I get that sound  like "Blur-Lurp" - but very rapid.  It's like trying to describe to the auto garage mechanic about the sound you hear in your car!
