I am trying to install a LexMark X6180 All-in-one-printer. I was working through the process OK, but had only one small question! I called LexMark's 800 # and obviously reached India. I worked with the man and tried unsucessfully to install my printer. I got a message that 'spooler service' needs to be installed. The man told me I would have to contact Dell. Hopefully someone here can tell me what a spooler service is and how I find it, install it and complete my installation. I don't want to call Dell because I will probably only get 'his' cousin!!!!!!!
next is probbly a system file check to replace any damaged files. . click on Start . . Run . . type sfc /scannow ( the space before / is important) . . it will likely ask you to insert the cd and may take as long as 45 mins. This may cause you to have to reload windows critical updates
I followed your directions (I think !) I got a message ... could not start print spooler service on local computer. Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.
What do you mean "tweak?" I tried "start, run, "sfc scannow" and I still get the same response (couldn't start print spooler service on local computer".
Please get back to your Services list (Just like SIMPSWR said – Right-click My Computer -> Manage -> Services and Application -> Services).
Now go through the list of the Services… You are looking for LexBceS or something similar (related to Lexmark).
Find it, switch it to Automatic and Start it.
Now try starting Spooler Service.
--------------
If you can’t find LexBceS or if the above didn’t work:
Double-click Spooler Service -> Switch to Dependencies tab -> check names of ALL services Spooler Service depends on -> look for all these services in the list, and make sure that they all are Automatic and Started.
Hopefully that will do the trick . . if not, next thing I'd try is a repair install . . this one will wipe out critical updates and hotfixes so be prepared to update them all over.

Look in Services ( RIght click on My Computer . . select Manage . . double click "Services and Programs" . . double click Services
Look for Spooler service and if it is not already set to start automatically set it . . and then click on Start
That should enable the spooler service.
