Start up

Not sure where to post this, but thought I would start here.

What programs do you absolutley need to start up and run, and what others can you be safe to shut down and start them manually if and when needed?  Is there a program that one can use to shut off the safe ones to shut off and keep the ones you need?

The quickest way to disable startup programs is using (from Start|Run) this command:

    msconfig

Under the Startup tab uncheck those that you don't need. As mentioned, your AV and firewall, are necessities. You may one or two others that you want/need.

Start, Run, Msconfig. Click on Startup Tab. Uncheck everything that this site says you can: www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php. When the computer reboots, check the box that says don't show me this again. If it's X or N, uncheck it.
