Still having resolution problems with XP reinstall

Hi, Ok - I get through all the screens and XP does ask to adjust screen resolution - however nothing happens. Everything remains in 640x480 and 16 bit. I cannot change anything. Help!

Thanks in advance

It is always difficult to answer questions if you don't post to the original thread in which your original problem is described. Which model computer do you have? Did you install the chipset drivers for your motherborad as the first drivers after reinstallation of Windows? Does Device Manager show any problem devices? If so, which devices are shown as problem devices.

I repeat "Did you install the chipset drivers for your motherboard as the first drivers after reinstallation of Windows?" After installing the chipset drivers, you need to install the drivers for your video adapter (not monitor).

    Sorry.  Inspiron 500m.

Under Monitor is says "default Monitor" so can't look into properties as its blocked (can't click on it).

Under Adapter is says all information is unavailable however when click on properties is says non-plug and play drivers, unknown manufacturers and location.  Status is "working properly".

    I'm stumped.

By the way, I'm american in USA but purchased this 500m in middle east.  500m isn't listed under Dell's USA help online site.

Dell doesn't support online the Inspiron 500m drivers. Any other places I might find drivers?

Help I can't get online with it or ANYTHING - device manager shows all devices without drivers.

Dell won't help me even though I bought the computer in April - they won't assist unless I bought it from them directly. I purchased through an electronics store overseas.

    Any advice will be appreciated.

    OK. Two questions.

    1. I'm on another computer - how can I download drivers...then burn to CD?

    2. Which drivers would I need? In Device Manager Other Devices are in question mark.

    base system device

    base system device

    ethernet controller

    multimedia audio controller

    network controlller

    PCI modem

    video controller

    video controller VGA compatible

    all these are without drivers.

Dell will not assist me! Only can I get assistance from the retailer who sits in Dubai. I'm here in USA.

Yes, you can download the drivers then burn them to CD and then copy them onto your Inspiron. You will need the chipset drivers (Intel Mobile Chipset), the Audio Drivers, the Intel (R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection, probably the Intel Graphics Technology 830M drivers (although I don't now which video you have on your system, so if this one doesn't work, try the Intel Extreme Graphics 855 GM), and the modem drivers (PCTel MDC). You may also need the drivers for the pointing device (Alps GlidePoint/StickPointer) and the Dell Quickset utility.
