Svchost.exe Error

About a month ago, I received this error while downloading Windows XP Updates.  A few days later I got an error Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library Runtime Error Program C:\windows\explorer.exe.  Well, I found the fix for the explorer error, however the svchost.exe error persits.

Dell wants me to restore the image file that came with my computer.  That is OK, if I can feel comfortable I will not lose all of the data and new program installations since I purchased the system in June 2006.

You will definitely LOSE all your personal files if you use PC Restore, as Dell suggests. You'll also lose all software you installed and all the XP updates and hotfixes. So if you run PC Restore, back up your files, including broswer Favorites list and email address book before you do it. Then get all the XP updates reinstalled before you do anything else.

Look carefully at that error message. Make sure it doesnn't say s CVhost.exe. scvhost.exe is malware that must be removed.

You should try running a windows system file check:
    Click start>run
    Type in: sfc /scannow
    (space between sfc and /)
    Click OK
Insert XP CD if sfc requests it. Reboot when it's done.
