System restore, missing calculator, program not responding. HELP!!!!!
i'm having issues with all of these. i've tried 2 do a system restore and it always says my computer can't do a system restore. does anyone know why this may be?
i can't access my calculator. a box that says "missing shortcut" "window is searching for calculator.ink. to locate the file yourself click browse:" then i'll get "the file or folder 'calculator.ink' that this shortcut refers to cannot befound." and the last box 2 pop up says "the item you selected is unavailable. it might have been moved, renamed, or removed. do you want to remove it from the list?" so i'm not sure how or why this has happened.
and i frequently get "program not responding" messages while i'm looking at something on the internet. and also, the internet explorer shortcut is gone from my startup menu and my desktop. so i tried to go through "all programs" and it's not there either. the only way i can pull up a webpage is to log on to yahoo messenger and click on my mailbox, just so i am able to pull up a webpage.
i'm having so many issues with this computer. i need help ASAP. any and all help will be greatly appreciated. i just want to restore my computer back to before i ever used it, so i can start over from scratch. HELP!!!!!
For the calculator, right-click on a blank space on the desktop and select New ☞ Shortcut. In the box that opens copy / paste %SystemRoot%\System32\calc.exe ☞ next ☞ finish.
For Internet Explorer, use windows explorer and navigate to either C:\Windows\Internet Explorer or C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and look for the blue IE icon and 'send to the desktop as a shortcut'.
the IE problem was my only issue up until this month. recently all the other things that i've stated earlier have started to happen. so i've got to figure out what to do about them. i can't live without my computer (lol). so i've got to have these problems fixed ASAP before the entire system breaks down on me.
well its to bad that this has to happen. but atleast i now know that i'm not crazy and that it's not something that i've done. i use to have aol on my old computer when i had a hewlett packard and it worked just fine. maybe i might consider going back to aol. thanks.
Since I had my computer Internet Explorer has only worked once....Ever since then it comes uo as 'Program not Responding' After contacting Dell they phoned me back and we re-booted it but that did not fix it. They then send me a pile of CD's and we did a complete system restore and that hasn't worked.
I use AOL and that works fine but certain programs, like McAfee always go through Internet Explorer to register and get updates but it always comes up as 'Program not responding'
I've just tried phoning the technical support but there was a 25 min wait
I've even emailed Microsoft but they said that as it was installed by Dell I have to contact them.
I've looked on the Microsoft Support site - there seems to be several 'fixes' available but none that seem to describe what is going on with my computer.
I've only had this thing for two weeks and apart from the IE issue it's been OK
I'm on hold at the moment to Dell Technical support
I eventually got through to Technical Support via their 'chat' facility. Unfortunately they only deal with the hardware and I now have to phone their Software Support Team tomorrow.
Their number is 0870 366 4026 if you want to give them a try. They did say that there was a 'nominal' fee involved. But as my computer is only two weeks they'd better not try to charge me.
