system restore non functional

hi ALL
i have some issues with my dim 2350 comp and i need to do  a system restore.now due to some reason when i try that it says that i cant restore my comp as it has been turned off.please help.

    If it has been turned off for whatever reason, it will not help you now. Sorry.

    You may be better off doing a repair of XP using your XP CD.

    junkinjoy.

    The problem could be a corrupt restore database.

    Try going to > Start > Control Panel > System Properties > Click System Restore Tab > Check the Turn Off "System Restore" box > Reboot the system > Reactive System Restore > Create a Manual Restore Point and then try restoring to it.
