Trouble logging in

I just got this Dell from my friend to try it out to see if I like it or not.I think it is a Dimensions 2400 series with Windows XP.I have had it about a week and now it is not letting me log in to check some email on 2 websites and login on another forum and it did the other day.I have erased some junk off of here with some software that I put on here with Defender Pro that has virus, firewall, spyware and other stuff but now I have taken the Defender Pro off and it still won't let me and last night and downloaded java again.Any ideas is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have completely taken defender pro off the computer and it still won't let me log in to yahoo, msn, and a few other websites.I think the cookies are ok but not sure if it has erased something or not.

System restore just lets me go back 3 days and it has been probably about 5 days now.

    Check Your HOSTS file.

It is a hidden system file and should look exactly like this:

    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    #      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
    #       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

    127.0.0.1       localhost
