I just purchased an hp 2410 photo printer and the install is looking for a usbscan.sys file. Can't find it running in the Home Edition of Windows XP running on a Dimension 4600 machine. Previously had problems recognizing any usb device and had to pull from the install disk but can't any usb files there any longer. Can anyone help?
In your Device Manager did you expand all the usb entries ? If you find a bad one, uninstall and reboot. If that doesn't help the sfc /scannow command may replace it.
Forget the sfc cpmmand for now. If you do need to run it the syntax is sfc /scannow (there's a space after the c). You can run this from Start/Run or command prompt.
Do a search on your machine for the file usbscan.sys. If there is a copy in the dllcache folder go to Start/Run and Enter this command: msconfig
When it comes up click on Expand. Fill in the 3 blank fields with these entries:
usbscan.sys
C:\windows\system32\dllcache
c:\windows\system32
Now hit Expand (or Enter)
Restart your computer. (Print this out so you don't need your browser open when you do this.)
