Vista had been running great on my 3 month old Dell E520. 3 days ago I started getting all these crashes. The computer boots up and within 3 or 4 minutes the screen will just go completly blank without any warning at all. I have a Samsung 24 inch monitor with the correct driver. I do not know where to start to fix this problem. The computer won't hardly stay on long enough for me to do anything. I am using my old Dell to get to this board.
My video card is a Geforce 7900 gs. I am running the latest driver for it. Anyone care to help me?
Does the computer shut off completely or is it just the monitor? Try switching with the monitor from the old computer to check. I would reinstall the video card driver in case it is corrupted. Monitors really don't need drivers. It's the video card that needs them. If the computer itself is crashing, run Dell diagnostics and look at the Event Viewer to check for errors.
The screen just goes black and can't see anything. I have removed the video card and am presently using the onboard video of the computer and there isn't a problem. I think my Geforce 7900 gs is the problem. Installing the drivers over and over wouldn't fix the problem. I am going to contact Newegg where I bought the video card 3 months ago and see if I can get a replacement.
