Actually they are invalid because they are not internet links and the forum software removed them. They were links to different sections in Vista. My fault. I should've removed the underlines and the colored fonts.

I was told by Dell software tech that all the updated drivers that you installed in your computer will automatically be installed in the Vista system.  Ernie

I successfully installed Vista OEM Ultimate and it is working great.   That is until I insert an SD card into the SD slot.  When I do this the computer now freezes up.

 

Other than this small thing, I am running great and very happy with the new Vista.

 

 

As for all the drivers, I am not sure that is really true.  I see a few "Generic Microsoft" drivers to run my hardware (LCD screen for instance).  I  am not really sure how many others, but the system seems to be out.

 

 

 

 

I am having the same problem with Vista Ultimate on a Inspiron 9200 .  So yesterday I took the day to open a ticket with Microsoft.

 

So here is the interesting discovery made so far.

 

If you go into the device manager, uninstall the SD Host driver, then perform a plug and play scan,  the driver will re-install and work without freezing until you reboot.  After the computer reboots, the driver will start to freeze the system again.  Odd workaround if you are desperate to copy to an SD card.

 

So after 6 hours on the phone with Microsoft, the microsoft tech called Dell.  Dell's answer was to send me a new motherboard.  Still waiting on the board, but I think the problem is in the software driver initalization.  After the board comes, I will update this thread with the result and also if Microsoft comes back with any updates.

 

 

I'm sorry, but are you sure your computer can actually support the upgrade to "Ultimate" or even to the "Premium.  Did you ever check to see which Vista your computer is capable of supporting?  If not, I placed the site to go to so that your computer can be checked.  It only takes a moment and will let you know the right Vista for your system.  Ernie

The Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor software utility gave my Inspiron 9200 "the thumbs up" before I did the clean install of Vista.

 

Although I am bewildered why you posted your reply.  The point of my posting was to say "I too am having problems with the SD card reader driver in Vista" 

 

I have an Inspiron 9200 1.6MHZ  and Vista Ultimate is running just fine.  Including the Aero Windows. 

 

I do have 1GB Ram.  My scores are as follows: 

 

Vista Base Score:  3.4

 

Processor:              3.4

Memory (Ram)        4.1

Graphics:                 4.1

Gaming Graphics    3.8

Primary Disk            4.3

 

 

 

 

my machine is doing the same thing. If you install the ricoh drivers in vista it works fine. You have to pull the card before reboot or it freezes on reboot. but you don't seem to have to reinstall card all the time in device manager. It will take dell months or years to fix this prob.
