Vista Windows updates do not install

Vista Windows updates do not install, all trouble shooting does not help.  Any ideas

    what happened what error messages did you get?

    yes I have bitdfender installed.  Before I uninstall it are you certain that it would cause my problem.

    Do you happen to have bitdefender installed? If so, what happens after you uninstall it? (not just disable, remove it entirely)

    While I'm not 100% sure, I'm sure enough to warrant giving it a try. I'm sure enough to say it's more likely that than anything else.
     
    You can always reinstall bitdefender afterwards.
     
    Definitely let us know how it goes.

    I had to turn off the firewall in BitDefender to do just about anything.  I cursed that product, and have removed it.
    Updates succeeded in all of my Vista installs to date, even with BitDefender.

    I uninstalled bitdfender antivirus v10 and was able to install Windows updates.

    The updates worked for me after I disabled Virus Protection and Firewall in BitDefender Internet Security v10.  Before doing that I was getting the 80070002 error from the update installer..
