Weird

Hiya something weird is on my task manager under applications called, (it is not internet explorer because it is there when internet explorer is closed) iexplore when i right click it and click go to process task manager and hightlights the previous highlighted proces. So i cannot get a process name for it. This is one of the most strange things that i've ever seen. Norton internet security 2006 and windows defender have not noticed anything.

Yes but it not iexplore.exe, it has no process name when I click go to process in taskmanger. It shows under applications in taskmanager when internet explorer is not open and under the processes menu there is not iexplore.exe running when it's running. It is there as soon as the pc turns on, i have been doing google searches but i cannot find anything related to this issue, i'm scared because my antivirus does not see it after full scans and I cannot even get its process name. It came after my antivirus detected something called purityscan and various other things from a message that came up on this website saying it wants to run the following active x content or something, and silly old me accepted it.

Do a Google Search for this.  You can also start by looking here.

go to processes and find it there then go www.processlibrary.com and search the .exe there or download the process scan and it should scan ur pc if anything is wrong and tell u what it is.

Some malware launches a 'hidden' instance of Internet Explorer so you don't actually see the browser running, but it's there and the trojan uses it to do its dirty work. For example, Trojan.Dropper exploits a vulnerability in MS Word, creates the hidden instance of IE to contact 220.232.197.134 through TCP port 35 on your PC.

Make sure you have a good firewall blocking both incoming and outgoing attacks, and all the latest updates for XP, MS Word, etc. Then run HijackThis and post the log as was already suggested.
