If XP Pro 32 bit is doing what you need it to do, Vista is really not going to give you anything new, providing you practice safe computing to begin with.
I agree with fnpaulie, I have Windows Vista Business and Windows XP Home installed on my computer and somehow I can't get rid of feeling that I bought beta version of Vista.
I've been using it for a month and have had numerous problems (from all programs menu mysteriously disappearing to sudden crashes), and would recommend XP if you're not ready to spend hours in solving computer problems.
If you decide for Vista at least wait for Service Pack 1 which will be available by the end of the year.
SP1 is not available until around the February 08 timeframe and from what I have seen of the SP, do not expect too much. Some of the Networking functions have changed but most of this and other features are "under the hood" changes.
There will be no radical chnage like there was in XPSP2.
Got my Dell XPS last Feb when VISTA came out. Have XP Home on my old Dell. Wouldn't go back to XP for any amount of money. All my software and printer, scanner, etc. work vey well on my computer.
Looking to buy another computer with VISTA to replace 8 year old Dell.
I must admit that my first intent was to buy my 410 with XP and get the upgrade disk but hold on to it until SP1 came out but I waited a few hours too long and wasn't able to get XP on it. Now I am glad I got VISTA.
Thank you, I am finding that I really like Vista as well. So far so good, though I have very little time on it. I do have most of my programs installed and so far no conflicts.
I like the look and use of Vista and it seems that it has comprehensive protection built in. I don't see much need for antivirus with the built in firewall and Defender programs built in. I also use Spybot and Adaware and A-Squared too.
