Windows keeps freezing

Hi all, I'm new to this forum so please have patience with me!  I have a Inspiron 530s with Vista installed and it randomly locks up and freezes (sometimes when searching or when left unattended for about 30mins) it also freezes when I first turn computer on if I don't open up some sort of program (anything really) straight away.  Can someone help me please?  I usually have to turn the computeroff via the start button as it won't let me shut down the correct way.

Check what you have running at Startup and disable everything but what is necessary. Try running a cleanup with something like CCleaner (Slim Build), and doing a malware scan with Malwarebytes. Both of those have free versions. If you believe that you have a malware problem, we may be able to offer additional suggestions.

    Hello Cynthia_Girl,

In addition to what Bugbatter has suggested, you may also refer to this article on Microsoft Windows Locks Up or an Error Occurs and try the steps mentioned in it.

    Hope this helps!
