Hey Guys I'm new here and desperately need some help. I have gone through 3 Microsoft techs with resolutions to my problem but with no help. I'm hoping someone here can help me. Ever since September for some reason I have not been getting automatic critical or custom updates for my pc. Let me say I am using the dimension 2350 with XP home SP2. I have tried everything from disabling virus protection to renaming folders. But not even microsoft can find out what's wrong. They say there is some kind of extra layer of security that we cannot find. I am using McAfee Internet Suite 7.0 and America Online 9.0 Security Edition. I uninstalled aol last week because i thought that was the problem since it started when i installed it in late August. Since then I only received 1 critcal update in September. Now microsoft tells me that i may need to back up my files and setting and install a clean XP home on the pc. Can someone help me to avoid that? And if not please tell me how to back up my files and setting and how to install then back on the pc after i reinstall xp home again. I have a whole bunch of programs and pictures that i do not want to lose so i'm trying everything to avoid a reinstall. Any suggestions will do. Thank You in advance.
Have you tried using Internet Explorer/ tools/windows update. I know this is not a fix but a possible workaround until you find a fix, worth a try. Are you having any other internet browsing problems?
Thank You for responding. Yes I did try it through the explorer butr I'm still getting the same message. Sometimes I do have problems with trying to browse within aol's browser,it won't surf like right now so i'm using the i.e. to post this. The microsoft tech contacted me this morning and suggested that i do a windows repair,he says that my files will stay intact so i think i will try that. If there are any suggestions please let me know. Like i said i would like to try to avoid reinstalling xp home. Thanks
