Windows won't install

I'm having trouble installing windows on my laptop. when i put in the CD in i have the computer boot from the CD-ROM. But, after it says setup is checking hardware configuration the screen goes blank and nothing happens it just sits there doing nothing. i checked the CD on a friends computer and it worked just fine so it's not the CD.

I don't know if it makes a difference but, i installed linux on it and deleted the original partition. any assitance would be greatly appreciated.

I am not certain that I understand you.  Is your only partition now a Linux partition?  Windows would not install on a Linux partition because of formatting (amongst other things).  You must install Windows on a separate partition.  So, if you have the space on your hard drive you would have to create a separate partition for Windows.  I think that you cannot do this either within Linux (you may be able to create empty space, not part of any partition) or within Windows setup (which you cannot access anyway).   You may have to purchase a partitioning utility; I use Partition Magic, 8.0 which Is now owned by Symantec: http://www.symantec.com/index.htm
