Windows XP Desktop icons

I reently had icons for the following items spontaneously appear on my Windows XP desktop : Travel, Poker, Card Games, Printer Cartridges, Casino Online, Bingo, and Website Hosting. I cannot delete the icons (shortcuts), move them to the recycle bin, or even open the properties window for these icons. I would depatately like to remove these icons. Has anyone else encountered similar issues with thesse icons and found a way to delete them?

Unfortunately, I've already looked in the Add/Remove Programs item in the Control Panel and there is no software associated with the icons that I can uninstall. Also, I regularly run Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search and Destroy. Neither of these applications removed the icons. Any other suggestions?

MSN messenger plus is probably the culprit.

Do not install MSN messenger plus!!!!! (unless it's too late)

we had the same problem and contacted the company. In add/remove programs look for "Search plugin" "windows searching" "window active" or "ultimate browser". Ours was listed under "search plugin". After removing it those icons were gone. Apparently it is a "worm" by some other company that automatically downloads.

    Good Luck!

Thanks to all for your suggestions. The solution to my problem was to download and run the file, new_uninstall.exe from the Help menu for the internet site (Lop.com) responsible for the icons. This removed the icons from the desktop.
