Windows XP Reinstallation CD

A few years ago I bought a Dell Inspiron 8600 notebook with a Windows XP Professional operating system. Recently my hard drive died so I purchased a new 100 GB hard drive online.

Now my question is, will I be able to use the reinstallation CD that came with my original Dell purchase in order to install Windows XP on my new hard drive or would I have to purchase the system from retail?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Yes, you can use the Dell OEM XP Professional disc, to reinstall XP.

If you have a laptop the cd key is most of the time located on the bottom of your machine.  I am not to sure if that is the same case on a desktop.

I have a problem.  I have lost the product key for my Reinstallation disk for my Dimension 440o Dell system.  Are the keys universal? Do I have to buy a new CD?

    Any help would be appreciated!!!
