Windowx Vista Question
Hey everybody, My parents just ordered me a new computer for graduation(hooray me XD) and I got stuck with this "Windows Vista". I recently heard it's crashing a lot and is having compatibility problems like XP did when it was first released and crashes often. Can someone tell me what the problems are currently? Newbie to Vista >_ doh!
I have a windows XP CD, cant i just install that once I get the comp.?

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Including Service Pack 2 It's a Re-Install CD though...is that still ok?

Thankfully my cousin works for Walmart Just call and he got me a Windows XP CD for my birthday. Thanks mombodog for your info. I appreciate it.- Well !! lets see.. I think it has to do with specs on Vista and its accommodation of up to 15 gb of memory. My e1505 T5500 Core 2 Duo came equipped with one gigabyte of PC2 4200 533 mhz DDR2 memory. I promptly installed Vista Ultimate RC1 and I was doing ok . I started getting the 'memory is running low' warning and eventually the 'out of memory' warning. It was easy enough to simply close some program.But I found a great deal on 2 gigabytes of 5400 667 mhz DDR2 at ebay for $154 delivered. This laptop finally turned on. It was a lot better. No more closing apps and no more XP.Hmm !! Lets see ... I think Vista with its specs is saying something. Did you know that Vienna will be 64 bit completely. No more x86 32 bit. I wonder if the writing is on the wall?My cousin the e1705 accommodates up to 4 gb of 667 DDR2. My e1505 only two. I suggest I will soon be able to upgrade to four and my cousin the e1705 will be able to load eight. Those new 2 gb modules look about the same size as the one and bios on a new model is probably all but coming.Xp was very good to us . Vista will lead us to Vienna and gobble up xp like some fodder for the taking.
- Where do you guys get the idea that you have to have 2 gigs of memory to run vista ??? You can run just fine with 512 Mb but to get full features you need a gig,.....That is only 1 gig !! I have run it on as little as 512MB, and also on 1 Gig, and it does just fine .
