I'm sure I must be missing something obvious here but when I try to rip a cd to hdd using vista and wmp11, the mp3s so produced have a file attribute of read only. This results in the mp3 not being able to be transfered to a mp3 player.
When I last did this with xp and wmp10 I had no problems in copying the mp3s over.
I rip cd's all the time us wmp11 and vista. Try setting the autoplay to 'ask' then put the cd in, the screen will come up and choose 'rip cd using wmp'. Ripping should start automatically.

I just ripped a new CD using WMP11, to a folder on the desktop. I couldn't move the folder to Music (it kept asking for administrator permission), and the folder was read only, but the tracks in it weren't, and I could select all the tracks and move them to Music.
looks like something in vista doesn't allow cd ripped mp3 files to be copied or moved from its destination folder.
I've now ripped a couple of mp3s from cd using nero and using a different destination folder to the default music folder. I again couldn't move or copy the mp3 from its original destination folder.
Anyone got any ideas on why this is happening?
fwiw using xp I can move and copy the same ripped mp3 files from the ripped destination folder.

Do you know if the CD has DRM protection. I seem to remember that this could be done.
