I have an Inspiron1100 and just performed a reinstall following a crash or similar shutdown. When reinstall with provided discs was completed all my files that were in MS Word were translated into Word 2000. I tried to install the Word 200o that I have from anther computer. When I went to open one of the word files it opened briefly , and then I gao a message saying that I must enter the 25 letters or numbers that "Are on jewel case that the disc came in". I didn't get the sic in a jewel case, it came in an envelope that I got with my other PC, a DimensionL667r.
How can I overcome this and install the Word 2000 program that I own?
Install Belarc Advisor (download it from
here on the other computer (which currently has Word 2000 installed) and run it. It will display the 25-character Product ID for that copy of Word 2000 which you can use to install the program on your Inspiron.
The envelope that the MS Word CD was in should have the "key" printed on it.
If this copy of MS Word came with a new PC, it is only (legally) licensed for use on the PC it was supplied with.
There are 3rd party programs around that will allow you to get the CD Key from the installed program on the original PC, however Dell forum rules prohibit discussing illegal copying or installation of software. (read between the lines)...
